AIR FRANCE pilots are set to strike next month in an ongoing dispute over reorganisation plans for the company.
The National Union of Pilots (SNPL) yesterday promised that it would file notice of its members’ intention to strike on Thursday.
Jean-Louis Barber, president of SNPL France Alpa said: “We will file a notice on Thursday… because the threat to our jobs is too great.”

A second pilots’ union has joined calls for a strike at Air France on 15-18 September. Like the largest union at the company, the SNPL, it wants the same conditions for pilots in all branches of the company.

Ben Gurion Airport Workers to Strike for 3 Hours
Employees of the Ben Gurion International Airport will strike on Thursday morning for three hours, beginning at 11:00 a.m. During the strike, planes will not take off, and passengers landing in the airport will not receive their luggage.
Several of Romania’s Tarom internal flights get cancelled due to employee protest
Six flights operated by Romanian state owned airline Tarom were canceled on Monday morning and others were delayed, due to a spontaneous protest of the company’s pilots.
Tarom’s internal flights to Oradea, Baia Mare, Satu Mare, Iasi and one of the flights to Cluj-Napoca were canceled, according to an announcement from the company. The company’s flight to Budapest was also canceled. Another internal flight to Cluj-Napoca was also delayed by several hours.
Lufthansa pilots to strike again if offer falls short
Lufthansa's pilots, holding their third walkout at the German airline within a week on Wednesday, said they remained ready to strike again if an updated offer on an early retirement scheme promised by Lufthansa did not go far enough.
Its CEO Carsten Spohr said on Tuesday the airline would present a more detailed offer to the union at the start of next week. "We are still ready to strike. We have to see what this offer is, but we are happy that the employer seems to have moved slightly," Vereinigung Cockpit board member Markus Wahl said.
UPDATE Sep. 15: Lufthansa pilots to strike in Frankfurt on Tuesday
Lufthansa pilots will hold an eight-hour strike on Tuesday, wiping out flights from its Frankfurt hub, union Vereinigung Cockpit said on Monday, announcing the fourth strike by the pilots to hit the German airline within three weeks.
The proposed strike on Tuesday will run from 0700-1500 GMT, the union said. There will be no flights from Lufthansa's main hub Frankfurt and no long haul flights using Airbus A380, A330 and A340 planes, and Boeing B747s.
Lufthansa pilots to strike at Munich airport on Wednesday
Lufthansa pilots will hold a eight-hour strike at Munich airport on Wednesday, union Vereinigung Cockpit said on Tuesday, the third strike by the German airline's pilots within two weeks.
The pilots are seeking to increase the pressure on Lufthansa in negotiations over an early retirement scheme. They held a strike at its budget carrier Germanwings at the end of August, followed by a walkout at Frankfurt last week.
The proposed strike at Munich, Lufthansa's biggest airport behind Frankfurt, will run from 0800-1600 GMT, the union said.
Heathrow baggage handlers to strike on Friday
Ground handlers at Heathrow airport are to strike on Friday in a dispute over pay.
Unite said more than 500 of its members will walk out for 24 hours in protest at a delay in paying last year's award.
Talks between the union and employers ASIG have broken down.
The strike will run from 00.01am on Friday at terminals one, two and three, involving check-in and baggage handling staff.
Italy faces air traffic controller strike on Saturday
Airlines face disruption tomorrow (Saturday) due to a strike by air traffic controllers in Italy.
The walkout will take place between 12.30pm and 4.30pm local time.
Aircraft flying over Italy and inbound long-haul services will be the only ones unaffected, according to Eurocontrol.
Lufthansa Pilots to Stage 6-Hour Strike Friday
A union representing pilots at Lufthansa says they will stage a six-hour strike Friday, targeting short- and medium-haul flights from Frankfurt.
The Vereinigung Cockpit union said Thursday the strike will run from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. (1500 to 2100 GMT; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT). It will involve pilots on Boeing 737, Airbus A320 and Embraer planes scheduled to depart Germany's busiest airport, which is Lufthansa's main hub.
Employees of Sri Lanka's International Airport threaten to strike
A civil aviation sector trade union affiliated with the Ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party has vowed to lead its employees at the Colombo International Airport to strike work unless authorities take prompt actions to remove the security chief at the airport.
The president of the Airport & Aviation Union M.W.B. Muhandiram said that the security chief, Chinthaka Kumarasinghe has attacked an employee under him who is also a heart patient.
He said the trade union has made a written request from the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority to remove the official and the employees would strike from September 09 unless the problem is rectified.
Strike at Belfast International Airport
Swissport workers are to go on strike at Belfast International Airport.
The four-hour walkout will take place from 4am next Monday and follows a 94% vote for industrial action in a recent ballot conducted by Unison.
Pilots of Lufthansa subsidiary Germanwings to strike
Pilots of the Lufthansa subsidiary Germanwings are to strike on Friday in pursuit of their demands for better early retirement provisions, their union announced on Thursday.
The pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit said in a statement it is "planning... strikes for all Germanwings flights departing from all German airports between 6:00 am and midday" (0400-1000 GMT).
